Day 9 - Happy early birthday, Preston!

We were slow to get up after our late night. We unhooked about 11:00am and went to the Monument Valley Visitor’s Center. We were underwhelmed with the center but the monuments are impressive from all sides.

On to Goosenecks, the best geologic example of “entrenched meandering”. Water travels over 5 miles within a 1 mile distance. It is about 1000ft from the overlook down to the San Juan River.

Next stop Hovenweep. Lunch. Then a film, I love films, you learn so much more. Then a short hike around the rim of the canyon there. Pretty cool to see these early dwellings.

On to Cortez. We picked up a rental car at the not-so-huge airport. I followed Ray to the Mesa Verde RV Resort!

While Ray checked in the boys and I headed for the pool.

Since we had the freedom of a rental car we decided to go out to dinner at the Pizza Hut. AND…..Preston’s birthday is coming up in a few days (7/15). He’s been asking for an iTouch. Since we have lots of down time on the road we thought we might give it to him for an early BD present. He was thrilled. Happy early 13th Preston.
In the middle of NO where on the way to Hovenweep

Waiting for the locals to cross...

Hovenweep...a little crazy after 8 days on the road
